Magnets can be used to find studs in walls by detecting the presence of metal objects that may be embedded in the studs.

How do I locate studs with magnets?
To use a strong neodymium sphere magnet to locate studs in a wall, you can follow these steps:
- Holding the magnet close to the wall, slowly sweep it across the surface.
- Pay close attention to locations where the magnet appears to be drawn more strongly. This might point to the presence of a metal object behind the wall, like a nail or screw.
- When you have found an area where the magnet is strongly attracted, mark the spot with a pencil or piece of tape.
- Continue moving the magnet along the wall and marking the spots where it is attracted.
- Studs are typically spaced about 16 inches apart, so look for a pattern of marks that are spaced approximately this distance apart. This can help you locate the studs behind the wall.
Keep in mind that not all walls will contain metal objects, so it is possible that the magnet may not be attracted to anything in certain areas. In these cases, it may be necessary to use an alternative method, such as a stud finder or tapping on the wall, to locate the studs.
What size magnet do I need?
We recommend the 5/8 inch or 3/4 inch sphere magnets for locating studs in the wall. The spherical space allows the magnet to easily roll around on the wall and pin point the exact location of the screws.
