What does "axially magnetized" mean?

Most of our disc and cylinder magnets are labeled as axially magnetized because the magnetization direction is through the axis of the magnet. That means that the poles of the magnet will be on the large flat surfaces of cylinder and disc magnets rather than the rounded sides.

 Axially Magnetized

A rare earth magnet can be magnetized in several different directions. Neodymium magnets vary in shape, and each different shape has its own corresponding magnetization direction options

Learn more about all the different magnetization direction options here.
