Magnet Safety Warning
Please handle these rare earth 1 1/4 x 1/4 inch (Outer Diameter x Thickness) disc magnets with caution. They are incredibly strong and powerful for their small size, and can pose a safety risk.
These grade N52 disc magnets are difficult to separate by hand, and can snap back together with extreme speed and force. This may cause the magnets to break and send small fragments flying into the air, potentially causing injury.
With 35.8 lbs of pull force, these disc magnets can also pinch your fingers if they snap back together. For your safety, keep these magnets far apart and at a safe distance of several feet or more once separated. Hand and eye protection is strongly recommended when handling these magnets.
Installing Countersunk Magnets: Snug, Not Tight
Tighten each screw only until its head sits flush with the magnet, then stop. Neodymium is hard but brittle, so it can't flex like a steel washer. Once the screw head seats, every extra turn wedges it deeper into the countersink and can crack the magnet around the hole.
Use #10 flat-head screws. Avoid pan-head and round-head screws, which press on the thin edge of the hole.
Drive the screw by hand when you can. If you use a drill/driver, set the clutch to a low number, drive slowly, stop about one turn early and finish by hand. Don't use an impact driver or drill mode. Mount the magnet on a flat surface over a pilot hole, because a bump or glue drip underneath can crack it as you tighten.
