Magnet Pull Force Calculator
See how hard a neodymium magnet holds to steel or to another magnet. Enter its shape, size and grade, then add a gap, thin steel or heat to see how the pull changes. It also shows how much the magnet holds on a wall before it slides, and the closest magnets we stock.

Choosing & Sizing
Find the right shape and size, and learn how much weight a magnet really holds.
Quick Sizing Rule
A magnet holds far less on a vertical surface than it does pulling straight off steel. For an item on a wall, choose magnets with a total pull force of 7 to 10 times its weight, toward the high end on thin steel. For a straight pull, like a sign hanging below a steel beam, plan on 1.5 times the weight. Check your numbers in the pull force calculator.

Safety & Handling
Strong magnets can pinch skin, chip and affect electronics. Handle and store them safely.
Safe Handling
Not a Toy
Keep neodymium magnets away from young children and pets. Swallowed magnets can pull together inside the body and cause serious injury. People with pacemakers or other implanted medical devices should keep strong magnets away from the device. Read our safety and handling information.
